Fancy exploring an exotic paradise tucked away in South Ruislip?

South Ruislip residents Costas and Roberto are opening their garden as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS) to raise money for nursing and cancer-related charities.

It’s a compact garden with an exotic feel that combines hardy architectural plants with more tender ones. A feeling of a small oasis with plants like Musa Basjoo, Ensette Montbelliardii, tree ferns and black bamboo. Potted Mediterranean plants on the patio include herbs, a fig tree and two olive trees.

Refreshments including home-made cakes and savouries will also be on sale as well as plants, home-made jam and biscuits.

Do go along and help Costas and Roberto raise money for the NGS’s charities!

The SRRA has consulted local residents and members  and key local stakeholders.  We are objecting to the development and this video explains why…

1st Anniversary of Cineworld in South Ruilsip!

Time flies – Cineworld South Ruislip will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Saturday 14th July, after welcoming over 350,000 cinema-goers in its first year.

The 1,745-seat state of the art cinema, located at The Old Dairy, has shown over 346 films across over 15,946 screenings, playing the biggest blockbusters and delivering thousands of hours of movie magic for local residents. In the past year, over 58,000 portions of popcorn have been sold with large sweet popcorn being the most popular selling snack.

What’s more, South Ruislip cinema fans are big lovers of family-friendly blockbusters, with action-packed movies such as Marvel’s Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle all featuring within the cinema’s top five performing films in the last year.

To mark its first birthday, Cineworld South Ruislip is inviting local residents on Saturday 14th July from 1pm to 4pm to join in the festivities and activities planned for its landmark anniversary. This includes a wheel of fortune, plus amazing giveaways and opportunities to win goodies. Lucky winners could get their hands on complimentary cinema tickets, food & drink vouchers and even movie merchandise.

Sam Tomlinson, Cineworld South Ruislip General Manager, comments: “It’s been an incredible first year and we’ve loved being part of the local community, welcoming over 350,000 customers through our doors since we opened. On Saturday we’ll be giving away lots of prizes, goodies and it is the opening weekend of Pixar’s Incredibles 2, so what better way to spend our one-year anniversary and show our gratitude than giving back to the movie-loving community who help make the cinema so great.”

SRRA Vice Chair Sid Jackson was today honoured to carry the RAF Centenary baton, heading for Horse Guards Parade tomorrow from RAF Northolt to the Polish War Memorial, where the baton was handed over to the station commander of RAF Northolt.

The baton was made to commemorate 100 years of the RAF.  Setting off on April 1st and having travelled to RAF bases around the world, the baton left the last RAF base at Northolt carried by Sid today.

Sid is a veteran of the RAF who has both worked at RAF Northolt and now lives locally in South Ruislip.

Well done Sid!

RAF 100 Fly Past

The route of the flypast through East Anglia

Update from Sqn Ldr Tenniswood at RAF Northolt on the Fly Past.  Scheduled for 1pm tomorrow!

Dear all,

Now that I have firm finalized information, I thought you would pass on the routes for the RAF 100 flypast which is planned for Tuesday 10 July as 1300.

The flypast will enter London from the east, fly along The Mall, then split up into 9 packets of aircraft which will exit London over Hendon, Heathrow and the South West of London.

In London, the best place to be the entire flypast will be at The Mall, or just behind Buckingham Palace, somewhere like Eaton Square Gardens.

If you want to see the aircraft that will exit over Hillingdon, the best, and only view will be just North of Heathrow; Harlington, Sipson and Harmondsworth areas.

Aircraft from the flypast may be visible along the lower border with Ealing and the M4, and along the eastern edge of Harrow, east of the A5.

Unfortunately the aircraft will not exit over RAF Northolt or its surrounds.  This is because unlike the Queen’s Birthday Flypast, which is much smaller and usually flies out over RAF Northolt in order to avoid Heathrow airspace, this flypast, with up to 100 aircraft, will see Heathrow’s airspace closed and cleared; thus nearly all the traffic will travel out over Heathrow and to the south of Heathrow.

We will put out any updates on the RAF Northolt Twitter and Facebook channels.  Of course the Flypast, and the parade, will be broadcast on BBC One on the day.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Kind Regards

James

Michael Sobell Hospice

The board of trustees of the charity that runs Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood, is looking to cease inpatient services in the future.  The reasons for this is that they feel the building is no longer appropriate for this service.  It was built to last 20 years, 40 years ago.  The will continue to offer outpatient and care in the community.

Inpatient care in future is slated to be provided at Mount Vernon on two main wards on an interim basis.

Terry Dean has launched a campaign with a few days to run campaiging for East & North Herts NHS Trust to provide a new dedicated site for Hospice services run by the Michael Sobell Hospice.

Many of our lives of residents in South Ruislip have been touched by Michael Sobell Hospice and their services and it’s good to see Terry’s pragmatic approach.

For more information on Michael Sobell Hospice please check out their website and press statements on the reasons for the change.

Terry’s petition can be accessed here.  Only a few days left to sign.
